The Flemish Ardennes is known for its beautiful scenery and we want to keep it that way. That is why we are always looking for ways to limit the impact on the environment. Sometimes this involves small interventions and sometimes big changes. Below you can see which measures we have taken so far.
The garden is teeming with (small) life. Bees, hedgehogs, sparrows … With a bit of luck, you can spot them while enjoying a drink on the terrace. To make sure they feel at home, we leave the garden completely untouched in May. That month, no pruning shears or lawn machines come into play and we let everything grow lushly. A feast for the bees that are struggling worldwide and a feast for the eyes with all the colours of the wild flowers.
Perhaps less visible but no less important is the hotel’s green roof. The succulents on the roof absorb water so it helps in cases of extreme rainfall that is becoming more common with global warming. Moreover, it helps to keep the ambient temperature bearable in summer temperatures and improve air quality.
Domesticated animals also feel completely at home on our terrace. Our handyman likes to work with waste wood and other materials that otherwise would end up in the trash. He used them to create a doggy bar for our furry friends (please note that dogs are not allowed in the hotel rooms) and on the other side of the terrace you can find his darts game and a herb garden. That herb garden now produces the mint we use to make mint tea. In the future, we plan to expand our herb garden even more so that the chef can use it in the kitchen.
Guests also do their bit in their hotel rooms. If you’ve booked more than one night, you will be asked at check-in if you want to use the housekeeping service the next day.

All rooms have air conditioning to stay cool on a hot summer day. But if you like to let in some fresh air in the room and open a window, the air conditioning automatically turns off to save energy.
In the bathroom, you can find refillable soap pumps so we don’t waste an endless supply of soap bars, and we only replace your towels if you leave them on the floor. If you don’t mind using your towel more than once instead of having it washed after each use, you can hang them up and housekeeping will know you’re being considerate of the environment.
Oudenaarde’s rural surroundings and numerous breweries are a gift to your taste buds and the environment. Why bring in produce from far away when we have all this deliciousness at our fingertips? Make sure to try a local, organic beer from Oudenaarde at the bar. But you can also expect local and organic products on your plate.
That pretty little flower on your table are dried flowers, by the way. They last much longer than fresh flowers.
Bike Paradise Oudenaarde attracts many cyclists and so many of our guests do not come by car, but by bike. We like to encourage guests who travel so ecologically. That is why there is a secure bicycle shed and space to clean and maintain your bike. You can sort waste from snacks and drinks you enjoyed on your way to the hotel in the sorting bins at the entrance.
