Top 5 Walking Routes in the Flemish Ardennes

The Flemish Ardennes stand for endless walking and cycling pleasure. Discover Flanders’ most beautiful landscape, an extraordinarily rural region with its typical undulating character. Both for recreational walkers, Sunday family walkers, and for seasoned walkers! It is therefore sometimes called a real hiking mecca. Walking from Oudenaarde takes you on the most extraordinarily beautiful walking routes along countless picturesque spots. We have selected our top 5 walking routes for you.

Omer Wattez walking route

A beautifully mapped out tour of 12 km, along the most beautiful corners of the Flemish Ardennes. Is this route a bit too long? Then you can also choose to shorten the course to 11, 9 or 7 kilometers. Whichever route you follow, it remains a brisk walk on paved and unpaved roads, each time with beautiful panoramas.

With this walk you will discover Schorisse. ‘Schuuse’ in popular speech is the birthplace of Omer Wattez, the creator of the name ‘Flemish Ardennes’. Departure and end point at St. Peter’s Church Schorisse.

Pedal walking route through Kwaremont

The village of Kwaremont owes its name to the slopes Kwaremont and the Oude Kwaremont, where the second slope runs right through the village. The Belgian blond beer, Kwaremont, was also named after these well-known hills from the Flemish Ardennes.

This route has a distance of 11.8 km with a lot of altimeters and cobblestones. You will explore some iconic places of The Tour of Flanders with plenty of cafes along the way so you can take a break and try the delicious blond beer! Start in d’Oude Hoeve Kluisbergen.

Along the slopes of the Round walking route

This 15.5 km long walk is one that you should not underestimate! It is one of the 5 most challenging routes in the Flemish Ardennes thanks to its many steep paths. Ideal for a walker who wants to take on a challenge!

Walk along some legendary slopes from The Tour of Flanders. For example, De Kortekeer, Rotelenberg and Koppenberg are on your route. The slopes are compensated with the Koppenbergbos and Spijkerbos where you can completely relax. Start and finish at Nukerkeplein in Maarkedal.
